CV sources

The public CV source is jacob_graving_cv_short.tex. jacob_graving_cv_short_industry.tex is the separate industry variant; the older full academic CV remains independent.

Typography and layout

Both short sources use cv-theme.sty: Google Sans, dark green text, forest green headings and links, and fine neutral rules matching the website’s light color scheme. The first page starts with the name and contact details. The layout is a single column of ordinary LaTeX headings, paragraphs and lists. There are no text-as-image assets, icons or decorative sidebars.

The theme loads the bundled fonts directly, with no system font substitution. fonts/GoogleSans-Regular.ttf and fonts/GoogleSans-Semibold.ttf are static instances of the same Google Sans variable font used by the website. Their OFL license is included in fonts/OFL-GoogleSans.txt. Italic text uses the same face with a restrained slant because the website font has no italic axis.

Compile

Use XeLaTeX with the usual LaTeX packages (fontspec, xcolor, geometry, hyperref, enumitem, titlesec and fancyhdr), for example TeX Live or Overleaf. Run from this directory:

xelatex -interaction=nonstopmode -halt-on-error jacob_graving_cv_short.tex
xelatex -interaction=nonstopmode -halt-on-error jacob_graving_cv_short.tex

To publish a compiled public CV, copy the resulting PDF to ../jacob_graving_cv.pdf. The source files are the editable originals.

Fonts are embedded by XeLaTeX. Text remains selectable and searchable, and links are ordinary PDF hyperlinks. This does not certify any particular applicant tracking system or PDF/UA conformance.

Refresh the bundled font instances

Only needed when the website font changes. With Python and fontTools installed:

python prepare_fonts.py

Publication statuses and other CV content are maintained separately from styling.

Web CV

The separate /cv/ page is generated from jacob_graving_cv_short.tex by scripts/build_web_cv.py during site publication. To refresh the checked-in HTML locally, run python3 scripts/build_web_cv.py from the repository root. The PDF download is available on the web CV page; the homepage links to that page.
